The Project
The SOLARS project is a medical research study that follows Black and Latina women in Oakland during their pregnancies to understand how stress affects preterm birth. We asked—how might we leverage technology to expand the study and reach more women?

The Outcomes
To make participation easier and reach more women, we developed a web and mobile app version of the study. This reduced the need for in-person visits and lightened the workload for coordinators. The online SOLARS Study was built on UCSF's Eureka Research platform, which supports many digital studies. As part of this project, I designed new features for the Eureka platform, including:

  1. Proxy data entry—allowing coordinators to enter data on behalf of participants

  2. Multi-language—enabling participants to contribute in English or Spanish

A Special Thank You
I learned so much from working with Beth Berrean, Deputy Director of Design and Discovery at UCSF on the usability testing and participatory design sessions. A huge thank you to Beth!
